Rom law™ is a grea product. It is not perfect. It is digital, it installs on your computer and the one year license you get is just a few dollars more than the cost of a couple of printed law products. It has over 22,000 casebriefs, Dean's Law Dictionary that is 50x larger than Black's law dictionary, law outlines, questions and answers, flashcards, and 100,000's of pages of outlines. It has a complete section on law school exam writing.
It is not perfect by any means but we agree with the statement that they are getting really close. We are amazed at how this product has grown over the last 6 years. Each time we look at it every six months we see dramatic and amazing improvements in the quality and the quantum of materials in the product and the price stays the same or goes lower!
Consistently over the last three years they have been adding some of the best casebriefs we have every seen any publisher produce. Dean's law dictionary is hands down the best law dictionary ever made. As for law school exam writing, they are the experts. What really flips us out is as they have dramatically improved the product and have kept their pricing the same! Rom Law™ will save you about 250 hours each semester. You can easily edit and print the briefs or copy, paste or modify the rest of the content to make custom, outlines, and flashcards. This product is cheaper and much better than most printed products.
Our March 2010 update: We checked back this March 2010 and find without a doubt their casebriefs are superior to High Court and to Case Notes. They are not yet perfect, and we did find there are still two classes of cases; those that have been upgraded and those yet to be done. About 15% of the cases (3000 out of 20,000) fall into the yet to be upgraded category. We were told that they upgrade from 4-5 per day and were shown upgrades the day we visited. The quality before the upgrade was equal to Case Notes quality. After the upgrade, they were vastly superior to High Court quality.
The cases they upgraded they day we were there were done for a student who needed them done and who called the day before. That is amazing to us. Why? You can actually reach a live person, who will respond! They even called the student back and emailed her copies of the upgraded briefs. The upgrades were related to idiomatic law and included extensive quotes on the concepts from Dean's Law Dictionary.

You can evaluate the product from a download off their web site. Its free and they let you use it in demo mode for three days. It was easy to install and requires just a minimum knowledge of computers such as how to send an email with an attachment. Rom Law™ is a must download and a must take a look-see. It has over 22,000 casebriefs.
When we originally looked at the product we were impressed and went to visit them. We discovered some interesting things about the product. We learned it was created with Artificial Intelligence computer programs but we had to sign a non-disclosure agreement for two years. That is now expired.
All their law school exam writing, their casebriefs, and Dean's Law Dictionary work product was created by Artificial Intelligence on super computer with their own proprietary software language. Recently in January 2008, we saw them create casebriefs for constitutional law cases; the most difficult to do because the professors want you to understand the theory of the case. They input the entire text of the case into the program and then it examined over 180,000 cases to determine the meaning of the case. The program looked at all uses and cites of the case in all aspects. It printed a report that detailed all the issues and all the key theories and applications of the law that law students must learn in law school. They then deleted the duplicate information and it was done.
We came prepared and took their finished output and compared it to other canned casebriefs products. It was much better because it briefed the dissent in the case which explained in detail the entire theory of the principle on which the court decided the case.

All the products and parts of Rom Law™ are integrated so that it will save you a large amount of time and keep you from doing a lot of menial tasks and keep you focused on getting ready for exams. All the materials can be modified, and printed and a lot of the content can be copied into Word or your favorite word processor. They only allow the casebriefs to be edited and printed. You can make custom flash cards and print them out. When you get the law dictionary option and you highlight a word and double click in any part of the product it automatically looks the word up in Dean's Law Dictionary. What is really cool is you can copy and paste that definition into your custom law outline in Word or other favorite word processor in just a couple of seconds.
Rom law™ will save you money on the reference materials that law school professors always have you buy and you just don’t get a small portion of the reference material you get it all. Rom Law™ has the entire IRS tax code, SEC statutes, and so many more we just can’t list them all. We really liked the fact that it even had all the Federalist papers in the product so you can easily look up quotes by Courts in just a matter of a few seconds.
Rom Law™ and Bar Exams
One great usage of Rom Law™ is to determine what casesbooks your state bar bases its bar exam upon and then read the casebriefs and facts in all the casebooks in the relevant subjects. Many bar exams look at all the casebooks used by law schools in the relevant state and take their materials and ideas for the exam from those casebooks. The problem you have is you only use one book for criminal law but your state law schools may use 4 different books. That is one of the reasons why so many students have problems passing bar exams. They never learned the material in all the different casebooks but just the one they used in class. Rom Law™ is a valuable aid for bar exam preparation.

We cannot say enough about digital products you must purchase without ever being able to use them. STAY AWAY AND STAY FAR AWAY. If they do not have a phone number to call with a real person answering the phone do not purchase it. Rom Law™ has live tech support. From what we saw most of the problems can be solved by a simple email. For those that cannot they have live tech support. They have a real phone number and someone answers it and that person knows all about the product and can quickly solve problems.
One of our pet peeves is the new internet world. The internet was not made to allow people to do business without knowing who you do business with. DO NOT DO ONLINE BUSINESS WITH A COMPANY THAT DOES NOT HAVE A REAL PHONE NUMBER. If you buy a lot of stuff online in law school we know from experience that people make mistakes, students change courses all the time or there are real tech problems. If there is no one to contact, you are up the creek without a paddle. Rom Law™ has a phone number that is answered with the engineers who have designed the product. They do this because the designers are then motivated to fix any issues and make the product more user friendly.
